Eating Organic Food

Why should we eat organic food? Is eating organic food more expensive? How do I transition to eating organic food?

Why we Should Eat Organic Foods

Many of the food our society are eating have a variety of issues. The issues with foods we eat then become our issues in the way of our health.

The Expense of Eating Organic Foods

Eating organic foods costs more to buy, but let's weigh the cost. When you eat organic foods your body is getting more nutrients and therefore you eat less. Consider how much you are eating and how you feel after you eat, are you still hungry? Most people would say yes, I know I was, because they are not getting any nutrients from what they are eating.

Our personal experience is that we eat less when eating organic foods. Why? Because our bodies are getting nutrients instead of empty calories. Soooo, if by eating organic foods you eat less it weighs out the same in how much money you are spending on your food.

Health Costs

What is the cost of having a better quality of life? When we eat organic foods and give our bodies the nutrients it needs the quality of life we have is better. How much is that worth to you? Think about it....
  • No more taking time off of work due to health issues
  • No more kids missing school and you missing work due to health issues
  • No more paying someone to stay with a sick child, so you can go to work
  • No more sitting for hours waiting to see your health care professional
All of these are costing you money, money that could be used to give you and your family food that gives your body nutrients.

Transitioning to Eating Organic Foods

When I talk to people about transitioning to organic foods they are overwhelmed. They think they need to do it all right now. Realistically speaking this is virtually impossible unless you are working with a large budget. This takes baby steps. It took us 2 years to have all of our food and seasonings organic.

First we switched the foods we eat on a regular basis and it wasn't everything at once. Again baby steps, we replaced the seasonings we used regularly with organic. From there we purchased other seasonings we used less on or two a month. You can also consider planting your own organic garden using heirloom seeds.

Don't get overwhelmed, just start where you are, but start.

Are you eating organic foods? If so do you find you have a better quality of life?
Would you like to change the way you eat?

  1. Hi Joyce We are not certified organic, but we have had our farm for 14 years and we have not had anything sprayed etc since we got the farm. I do feel that feeding the soil means that the plants are better feed, and produce food that is better for our health. I think food is a important part of a healthy lifestyle.

    1. Hi Ariene,
When I visit the farmers market I talk to them about their practices. I understand small farmers don't have the finances to get certified and that's okay. As long as I know their growing practices are natural I buy from them.

  2. Hi Joyce,
I eat nothing but organic or local harvest organic. I try to buy as much food local so I know how it is grown and that it is as healthy as possible. Have a healthy, happy & blessed day!

  3. I love the baby steps idea. It can be so overwhelming trying to feed my family 100% organic. Now I aim for organic, but don't stress when it's not readily available (or insanely expensive!).
